New Jersey AchieveNJ Teacher Evaluation Software
Run AchieveNJ evaluations on your district's state-approved teacher practice instrument, with Student Growth Objectives and Student Growth Percentiles, aligned to New Jersey's requirements.
AchieveNJ is the entry point, not the whole story. In EX in Education, evaluations connect to coaching, goals, PD, and retention, so every educator moves from hired to thriving.
AchieveNJ Summative Evaluation
In short: New Jersey evaluates teachers through AchieveNJ, under the TEACHNJ Act. Each annual summative rating combines a teacher-practice score on a state-approved observation instrument (many districts use the Danielson Framework's four domains and 22 components; others use Marzano or Stronge) with student growth measures. Under New Jersey's current SGO pause (P.L. 2025 c.79), most teachers use existing Student Growth Objective data rather than setting new SGOs, while eligible tested grades and subjects still carry a Student Growth Percentile.

New Jersey's AchieveNJ Evaluation Framework
AchieveNJ is New Jersey's system for evaluating educator effectiveness under the TEACHNJ Act. Each teacher's summative rating combines a teacher practice score, measured on a state-approved observation instrument, with student growth measures. In EX in Education, that framework is the doorway into a connected system for coaching, PD, and retention.
Teacher Practice on a State-Approved Instrument
AchieveNJ lets each district choose a teacher practice instrument from the state-approved list. Many New Jersey districts use the Danielson Framework, with its four domains and 22 components, while others use Marzano, Stronge, or another approved model. EX configures the instrument your district adopted so evaluators score against it without rebuilding forms.
- Districts select an NJDOE-approved practice instrument
- Danielson: 4 domains, 22 components (a common choice)
- Marzano, Stronge, and other approved models supported
- Practice is the largest weight in the summative rating
Student Growth: SGOs and SGP
AchieveNJ pairs teacher practice with student growth. Under the current SGO moratorium (P.L. 2025 c.79), most teachers use existing Student Growth Objective (SGO) data rather than setting new SGOs for 2024-25 and beyond, with exceptions for first-year educators and those without prior data; teachers in eligible tested grades and subjects also carry a Student Growth Percentile (SGP). EX tracks both alongside the observation evidence.
- Existing SGO data used during the state SGO pause, with exceptions
- Student Growth Percentile for eligible tested-grade teachers
- Growth measures combine with practice by state weights
- Components roll up into one summative rating
Complete Teacher Practice Coverage
For districts on the Danielson Framework, all four domains and their 22 components are configured in EX in Education from your district’s approved forms, so New Jersey evaluators can observe, score, and generate evidence for the teacher practice component from day one. Districts on Marzano, Stronge, or another approved instrument get the same treatment.

Required Observations
- • Multiple observations set by tenure status and district policy
- • A mix of announced and unannounced visits
- • Post-observation conferences with written feedback
- • An annual summary conference before the summative rating
Ongoing & Informal
- • Informal walkthroughs for continuous feedback
- • Co-observations to calibrate evaluator scoring
- • SGO mid-year and end-of-year check-ins
- • Cadence set by the district's evaluation plan
Districts choose the instrument: AchieveNJ does not mandate a single rubric. Each district adopts a teacher practice instrument from the NJDOE-approved list and holds it through the evaluation cycle. EX supports the instrument, weighting, and observation structure your district's evaluation plan uses, and adapts as your plan changes.
Summative Ratings, Tracked Over Time
AchieveNJ produces one of four final summative ratings. EX in Education records each rating, ties it to the evidence behind it, and carries it forward so growth is visible from one cycle to the next.
Highly Effective
Consistently exceeds standards with strong impact on student learning
Effective
Consistently meets professional standards with clear positive outcomes
Partially Effective
Inconsistently meets standards and needs targeted support
Ineffective
Does not meet standards and requires intensive support
Under AchieveNJ, each teacher receives a summative rating that combines the teacher practice score with student growth measures according to state weights. Teachers rated Partially Effective or Ineffective are supported with a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). EX in Education keeps each teacher's rating history, component scores, and improvement plans in one place, and routes the ones who need support into coaching cycles so a rating leads to next steps, not just a score.

New Jersey AchieveNJ: frequently asked questions
What is AchieveNJ?
AchieveNJ is New Jersey's educator evaluation system under the TEACHNJ Act. Each teacher's annual summative rating combines a teacher practice score, measured on a state-approved observation instrument, with student growth measures.
What teacher practice instruments can New Jersey districts use?
Districts choose a teacher practice instrument from the state-approved list. Many New Jersey districts use the Danielson Framework, with its four domains and 22 components, while others use Marzano, Stronge, or another approved model.
How is student growth measured in AchieveNJ?
Under the current SGO pause (P.L. 2025 c.79, extending P.L. 2024 c.14), most teachers do not set new Student Growth Objectives for 2024-25 and beyond, until N.J.A.C. 6A:10 is readopted; evaluations use existing SGO data, with exceptions for first-year educators, teachers without prior SGO data, and some tenure-timing cases. Teachers in eligible tested grades and subjects still receive a Student Growth Percentile (SGP). The exact weights of teacher practice, SGOs, and SGP are set by the New Jersey Department of Education.
What are the AchieveNJ summative ratings?
All New Jersey teachers receive an annual summative rating of Highly Effective, Effective, Partially Effective, or Ineffective, based on the combination of teacher practice and student growth for the grades and subjects they teach.
