Rhode Island RIDE Teacher Evaluation Software
Run evaluations on the Rhode Island Model Educator Evaluation System, with Professional Practice, Professional Foundations, and Student Learning Objectives, aligned to RIDE's requirements.
The RI Model is the entry point, not the whole story. In EX in Education, RIDE evaluations connect to coaching, goals, PD, and retention, so every educator moves from hired to thriving.
RIDE Educator Evaluation
In short: Rhode Island evaluates teachers through the RI Model (the Rhode Island Model Evaluation and Support System), administered by RIDE; LEAs use the RI Model or another RIDE-approved system. It combines three components: Professional Practice, measured through observation; Professional Responsibilities, also called Professional Foundations; and Student Learning, which together produce an overall effectiveness rating.

Rhode Island's RIDE Evaluation Framework
The Rhode Island Model Educator Evaluation System, developed by the Rhode Island Department of Education, measures each educator across three components: Professional Practice, Professional Foundations, and Student Learning. In EX in Education, that framework is the doorway into a connected system for coaching, PD, and retention.
RI Model: Three Components
The RI Model brings together three sources of evidence into a single educator rating. All three come pre-configured in EX, so evaluators collect evidence and score without rebuilding forms.
- Professional Practice, observed against the practice rubric
- Professional Foundations, the professional responsibilities of the role
- Student Learning, measured through Student Learning Objectives
- Components combined into one summative rating
Student Learning and SLOs
In the RI Model, the Student Learning component is measured through Student Learning Objectives. EX tracks each SLO alongside the observation evidence behind it.
- SLOs set as SMART goals at the start of the year
- Baseline data and student growth targets
- Progress monitored across the evaluation cycle
- Results feed the final summative rating
Complete RI Model Coverage
The three components of the RI Model are pre-built in EX in Education, so Rhode Island evaluators can observe, collect evidence, and score against RIDE's framework from day one.
Professional Practice
How teaching looks in the classroom, observed against the RI Model practice rubric.
- Classroom observations across the year
- Announced and unannounced visits
- Evidence tied to the practice rubric
- Pre and post-observation conferences
Professional Foundations
The professional responsibilities that support strong practice beyond the observed lesson.
- Professional conduct and responsibilities
- Growth and continuous learning
- Collaboration and community
- Evidence collected across the cycle
Student Learning
The educator's impact on student learning, measured through Student Learning Objectives.
- SLOs set as SMART goals
- Baseline data and growth targets
- Progress monitored over the year
- Multiple sources of evidence
Observation Evidence
- • Formal observations against the practice rubric
- • Announced and unannounced visits
- • Pre and post-observation conferences
- • Number and cadence set by district policy
Ongoing Feedback
- • Informal walkthroughs for continuous feedback
- • Evidence gathered outside the formal lesson
- • SLO progress checks across the cycle
- • Feedback that leads into coaching
RIDE-approved models: Rhode Island districts may run the RI Model Educator Evaluation System or another evaluation model approved by RIDE. Whichever model a district uses, it combines evidence of practice with evidence of student learning into a summative rating. EX supports the RI Model rubric and the observation structure your district uses, and adapts as your plan changes.
Effectiveness Ratings, Tracked Over Time
The RI Model produces one of four final effectiveness ratings, combining professional practice, professional foundations, and student learning. EX in Education records each rating, ties it to the evidence behind it, and carries it forward so growth is visible from one cycle to the next.
Highly Effective
Consistently exceeds standards with exceptional impact on student learning and growth
Effective
Consistently meets professional standards with clear positive student outcomes
Developing
Inconsistently meets standards and needs targeted support
Ineffective
Does not meet standards and requires intensive support
In the RI Model, evidence from the three components is combined into a final rating of Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, or Ineffective. EX in Education keeps each educator's rating history, component scores, and support plans in one place, and routes the ones who need support into coaching cycles so a rating leads to next steps, not just a score.

Why Rhode Island Districts Run RIDE Evaluation Inside EX in Education
Run RIDE evaluation aligned to Rhode Island's requirements, then use what the evaluation surfaces to actually grow and keep your teachers. Evaluation is the doorway. Educator growth and retention is the product.
Less admin, more coaching
Structured workflows and feedback tools free evaluators to spend more of their time in coaching conversations, not paperwork.
Consistent across schools
Shared RI Model rubrics and calibration tools help evaluators score consistently, whether it is one building or the whole district.
Growth you can see
Ratings, SLOs, goals, and coaching history sit together, so progress is visible over time instead of scattered across files.
Retention, not just ratings
When feedback connects to PD, goals, and support, teachers keep developing, and districts keep the ones they worked hard to hire.
How AI Supports RIDE Evaluations
AI in EX in Education helps evaluators work through RIDE evaluations faster while keeping every judgment in human hands. It drafts and organizes, evaluators decide.
Draft Feedback From Evidence
Turn observation notes into clear, rubric-aligned feedback that the evaluator reviews and edits before it is shared.
Organize Evidence by Component
Sort notes and artifacts against Professional Practice, Professional Foundations, and Student Learning, so nothing is missed when it is time to score.
Suggest Growth Next Steps
Surface coaching moves and PD ideas tied to what an observation revealed, ready for the evaluator to assign.

Rhode Island teacher evaluation: frequently asked questions
What is the RI Model?
The RI Model is the Rhode Island Model Evaluation and Support System, the state's teacher evaluation system administered by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). LEAs implement the RI Model or another RIDE-approved system that meets the state's Educator Evaluation System Standards.
What are the components of the RI Model?
The RI Model combines three components: Professional Practice, measured through observation; Professional Responsibilities (also called Professional Foundations); and Student Learning. Together these describe a teacher's overall effectiveness.
What are the RI rating levels?
Evidence from the three components combines into a Final Effectiveness Rating of Highly Effective, Effective, Developing, or Ineffective. The rating determines how frequently a teacher is formally evaluated and what support they receive.
How is student learning measured in the RI Model?
Since the 2019-20 school year, the RI Model gives educators flexibility to choose one of several student learning options to assess their impact on student learning, rather than a single required measure.
